Well-being in Portugal “rising for three decades”

Well-being in Portugal has increased over the last three decades, approaching the level of the European Union (EU), reflecting a greater weight of consumption in the Gross Domestic Product ( GDP) and a longer life expectancy, the Bank of Portugal has said today. In their analysis, economists working for the banking regulator conclude that the well-being index in Portugal increased by an average of 2.7% per year between 1995 and 2022, revealing a process of convergence with the EU, writes Lusa. The Well-being index is a ‘self-assessment tool’. It is considered to be “a useful instrument for a wide range of opinion leaders, public and private decision-makers, including all levels of governance, non-governmental organizations, researchers, the media and the general public”, but intriguingly there is very little information on how it is compiled/ which entities decide it.
