Guimarães municipal police felt very bad about a €174 fine their service meted out to after towing away the car of an octogenarian driver who had parked it badly. The elderly man paid up on the spot, but he only had €171 in his bank account (receiving just €400 a month as a pension). The last €3 the man paid in cash. Agents “could not feel indifferent”, writes Correio da Manhã – and thus a quick whip-round collected roughly €100 which has been given to the driver to ensure he is not left without money for the rest of the month.
