Portugal’s outgoing prime minister, António Costa, will be received next Wednesday in Brussels by the European Commissioners for Employment and Social Rights, Nicolas Schmit, and for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton, to discuss co-operation with them in this mandate. This information has been passed to Lusa news agency by sources in the offices of Nicolas Schmit and Thierry Breton, who indicated that the meetings were requested by António Costa, who will be in Brussels that day to take part in the European summit a which on Thursday and Friday of next week will bring together the heads of government and state of the European Union (EU) in the Belgian capital to discuss mainly foreign affairs. A source in Schmit’s office told Lusa that the bilateral meeting will serve to “discuss social issues in Portugal and the EU”, just ahead of the European Council.
