Trial begins of couple accused of killing elderly Germans

The trial has begun in Beja today of the couple accused of killing an elderly German couple who had taken them in, giving them work in exchange for bed and board. According to Lusa, the ‘alleged killers pleaded innocence’. This is not exactly the case: the woman has said: “I didn’t kill them, I don’t know if Fernando did, but I won’t take the rap for anyone” – while ‘Fernando’ has “decided not to speak at this stage in the trial”. PJ police were hailed in this investigation for being able to track the suspects down in the space of two days.
