Ships took two days to clear Portuguese maritime territory
In the early hours of this morning, the Portuguese Navy concluded yet another mission of accompanying/ monitoring three Russian ships as they passed through Portuguese terroitorial waters.
In a statement, the Navy said it had monitored the passage through the Exclusive Economic Zone of one refueling ship and two Russian landing ships.
The mission, which began in the early hours of Friday and ended in the early hours of today, involved the Naval Patrol boats Bartolomeu Dias and Viana do Castelo, which “closely monitored these ships and contributed to the permanent clarification of the situational panorama“.
“This type of mission is carried out to guarantee the security of national maritime spaces and contribute to collective defence within the framework of the Atlantic Alliance,” stressed the Navy whose commander in chief has intimated as to the inherent risks.
