“What kind of image are authorities hoping to convey?”
As a 4th crewless boat washes up on Ferragudo beach – admittedly on a Public Holiday which is proving a washout for beachgoers – locals are beginning to complain.
“We’re at the gates of April and no-one is doing anything”, says a post over social media. “Since Praia Grande is the largest beach in Ferragudo and notoriously busy, especially in the summer, what kind of image do authorities want to convey?”
Indeed, the commentator accused ‘authorities’ of sending potential tourism “to more inspiring places with more natural views”.
Whatever one might feel about four washed-up wrecks on a rain-swept beach, the sun is almost certainly on the way – and then Praia Grande really will stand out like a sore thumb for the array of vessels stranded on their sides.
According to SIC Notícias, “authorities are worried about the time it is taking to remove the boats”. This latest arrival – during the storm of last Thursday night – has not yet even been claimed – so it could take a while to ensure owners sort its removal.
As for the other boats (the first of which washed up in October), it’s a long story. The Lady Stray (a Swedish boat) is due to be removed ‘shortly’ by Lagoa Câmara, says SIC – but Thor and Ran were due to have gone by now…
And now there is this new one to deal with.
“Is this the Algarve, or a country of the third world?” Queries another exasperated social media post.
