The number of households in Portugal with a total gross income of over €250,000 in 2022 was 5,409, an increase of 21.69 % on the previous year, according to IRS statistics. These global IRS statistics for 2022 have now been made publicly available by the Tax and Customs Authority (AT) and show that while the number of taxpayers with incomes of up to €10,000 gross fell from 2021 to 2022, in the other income brackets the trend was upwards. The most significant year-on-year growth occurred among taxpayers earning between €100,000 and €250,000 (an increase of 18.02%) and over €250,000 (21.69%). In terms of numbers, however, they still represent a tiny proportion of the 5,807,704 households that filed a personal income tax return in 2022.
