Tourism association will be busy promoting Algarve in April
The Algarve’s tourism sector is on the “right track” to build off its “auspicious Easter results” and ensure it remains a top destination the entire year, says regional tourism boss André Gomes.
“On our part, we maintain our focus on the diversity of opportunities that allow us to stimulate this positive demand. In April, we will continue our strategy of diversifying our markets and tourists, exploring the many reasons why (the Algarve) sparks the interest of many types of tourists. We do not lack arguments,” said Gomes in a statement released to the press by the Algarve Tourism Association (ATA).

The busy April schedule has begun with a press trip by German journalist Oliver Schmitt from the Frankfurter Allgemeine, which runs until Sunday, April 7 and will result in two articles focusing on the Algarve’s birdwatching potential and on the renovation of “emblematic buildings” which are “part of the region’s history and which tourism has provided with a new life,” with Vila Real de Santo António’s Grand House Algarve standing out as a shining example.
ATA will also be promoting the Algarve for the first time at Fiera del Cicloturismo, a cycling tourism fair held in Bologna, Italy between Friday and Sunday (April 5-7). “All the fair’s visitors will have the possibility to learn about the best that the Algarve has to offer for active tourism and nature lovers,” ATA says.

The association’s focus will then shift to North America, where ATA will take part in the Global Meeting & Incentive Travel Exchange in Orlando, USA between Sunday and Wednesday (April 7-10). The event will bring together American and Canadian representatives from the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) industry who will hear “all the arguments that make the Algarve a standout destination for all kinds of corporate events.”
This will be followed by a visit to Portugal from the US Tour Operators Association (USTOA), which between April 14 and 21 will bring 25 American tour operators to the country in a bid to “create business opportunities between Portuguese companies and American operators”. The initiative will feature a roundtable discussion attended by all seven national tourism regions (including the Algarve).
Next on the schedule is the Algarve’s participation in the Irish Travel Trade Shows between April 17-18, held in Cork and Dublin and aimed exclusively at Irish tourism professionals.

The Algarve’s Via Algarviana hiking network will be the focus of the second press trip of the month, which will see German journalist Gunter Kast from travel magazine Wanderlust visit the region between April 18 and 24 to discover the “variety of landscapes and natural areas” and the “hospitality and authenticity” of the Algarve’s inland areas.
Finally, the Algarve will turn its attention to Ireland yet again by taking part in a roadshow between April 30 and May 2 “exclusively dedicated to our country as a tourism destination.” Organised by the Irish Travel Trade Representation, the roadshow will include stops in Dublin, Limerick and Cork where the country will be promoted in networking events, promotional activities and much more.
