Lagos Rotary Club holds concerts in aid of CASLAS

French and Portuguese musicians will come together for two charity concerts

Two charity concerts will take place in Lagos and Portimão this month in a bid to raise money for CASLAS children’s home in Lagos.

Organised by the Lagos Rotary Club, the events will bring together musicians from the Cannes Conservatory in France and the Lagos and Portimão conservatories.

The first concert will take place on Monday, April 22 at the Lagos Cultural Centre, while the second is scheduled for Wednesday, April 24 at the Portimão TEMPO Theatre.

Both concerts will begin at 9pm and see the musical ensemble interpreting pieces by reputed composers such as Antonio Vivaldi, Jules Massenet, Johann Sebastien Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Georg Friedrich Händel, Georg Philipp Telemann, Scott Joplin, Edvard Grieg, Johann Strauss, and more.

Tickets cost €15 for adults and €10 for children aged 12 and under and can be purchased online at bol.pt or booked by telephone (+351 966 174 907 or +351 960 031 799).

Several efforts are currently underway to help raise money for CASLAS. As the Resident reported last week, students, staff and parents of Aljezur International School recently completed an 11km sponsored walk that raised €3,436 for the renovation of the home.

CASLAS is located near the main bus station in Lagos and is currently home for 27 young people aged 12 to 21 who have suffered different kinds of trauma in their young lives and are taken from unhealthy, sometimes dangerous family situations. They are given a safe place to live, attend school, taught life skills, and provided with meals and counselling.

As state funding provides for only their basic needs, virtually no money is left for building upgrades. Around €15,000 is needed to cover the costs of the renovations that are desperately needed in three common areas in the home: the study room, dining room and kitchen.
