Well over a year since they ‘hit the headlines’ with a mutiny that infuriated the Chief of Staff of the Naval Forces, the 13 members of the garrison of the Mondego patrol ship that failed to set sail to monitor a Russian ‘spyship’ passing through Portuguese waters, have been ‘condemned’ to between 10 and 90 days of suspension from duty. This was a major story when it ‘broke’, in March 2023, as it shone an unwelcome spotlight on the state of the Portuguese ‘armada’.
