Prime Minister Luís Montenegro is travelling to Madrid today, where he will be received by his Spanish counterpart, Pedro Sánchez, in what is the first official visit by the new leader of the Portuguese government. A source from the PM’s office tells Lusa the choice of Madrid for this first trip shows “the importance (Mr Montenegro) attaches to the historical relationship and cooperation” between Portugal and Spain. According to the same source, this meeting will serve to prepare the next Portuguese-Spanish summit, which has no date yet.
