Governor of Bank of Portugal called to parliament to explain massive operational losses

Considering the country was told ‘how healthy’ public accounts were generally, today has been all about how it doesn’t appear to be… at all. Talk has centred on how little money there appears to have been left behind by the last executive – with concerns also on the massive operational deficit registered by the Bank of Portugal whose governor is unlikely to be invited ‘back’ to serve a second term. A former PS Socialist finance minister himself, Mário Centeno, is being called to parliament by the commission on the budget, finances and public administration to explain the losses – albeit PS members stress these kind of financial dips followed ‘market conditions’ that have affected many European banks.
