Campaign has helped detect several early cases of prostate cancer
Mar Shopping Algarve in Loulé is hosting the 7th edition of ‘Prevent it Like a Gentleman’, an annual campaign focusing on men’s health which will take place between Friday, May 4 and Sunday, May 19.
The campaign aims to stress the importance of preventing prostate cancer and getting men to talk about their mental health, an issue which for many is still considered taboo.
One of the highlights of the event are the free prostate cancer screenings (PSAs) which will be held at the shopping centre’s HPA clinic. Those interested can sign up by telephone (302 053 457) or email (clinicaloule@grupohpa.com).
Since the first ‘Prevent it Like a Gentleman’ campaign, 1,470 PSAs have been carried out, resulting in the early detection of several cases of prostate cancer. In the last two years alone, 22 people out of the 449 tested were advised on the adequate treatment they should seek.
Meanwhile, two exhibitions – one of DGR and Triumph motorbikes and another featuring the creations of artist João Jesus, who reuses motorbike, bicycle and car pieces to create his artworks – will also be on display at the shopping centre until the end of the campaign.
The campaign is part of the international project known as ‘The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride’, which will be celebrated on May 19 with a vintage bike ride from Faro to the ‘Meeting Place’ at Mar Shopping Algarve, where there will be live music, a photowall where participants can capture the moment for posterity, and other entertainment.
