Porto art museum gets ‘most important’ donation in history

Porto’s Soares dos Reis National Museum has received a donation from a private art collection, which it says is the “most important” in its history, with pieces and works by artists ranging from António Carneiro to Paula Rego. The Cândida and Vasco Duarte Silva collection is made up of hundreds of paintings, sculptures, pieces of faience, jewellery, etc. “It’s a very relevant collection; it’s a huge opportunity because we’re going to incorporate several hundred pieces,” museum director António Ponte told Lusa, stressing the ‘diversity’ of the art works, which ‘enrich and even fill some gaps’ in the museum’s own collection.
