Extreme right wing figure Mário Machado has been condemned to two years 10 months in jail for comments made over social media two years ago, in which he called for the enforced prostitution of women in ‘political parties of the Left’. His messages had as their main ‘target’, the leader of MAS (the alternative Socialist movement), Renata Cambra. According to reports this afternoon, Mr Machado has said he will be appealing the sentence. This is a case over which a judge waived bail terms early on in the process, to allow Machado on a ‘humanitarian mission’ to Ukraine. The initial story was that he and a group of fellows were going to fight; it ended up more a mission to deliver food.
