Minister refuses to be drawn on reasons for replacing PSP chief

Yet another ‘top figure’ in public office has been replaced by the AD government. Following the controversial release of the chairman and board of Lisbon’s Santa Casa da Misericórdia, the top man at the PSP police has been replaced, after less than a year in the job. Critics suggest the government ‘let José Barros Correia go’ for his sympathetic approach to PSP demands for a risk subsidy equal to that of PJ counterparts. Minister for Internal Administration Margarida Blasco refutes this, saying it is simply that AD has a ‘new project’ in mind for the PSP, and for this reason has put superintendent Luís Carrilho in charge. Carrilho has an impressive international background and was previously head of security for President Marcelo.
