Between May 13 and 15, tickets for dozens of films of various genres and origins in theatres across Portugal cost just €3.50.
More than 500 cinemas in mainland Portugal are preparing to host the Festa do Cinema between May 13 and 15.
Cinema City, Cinemas Castello Lopes, UCI and Cinebox Cinemas are the participating theatres, where you can watch films at practically half the price.
“Among the more than 40 films of various genres and nationalities that can be seen on May 13, 14, and 15, with tickets priced at €3.50, the Cinema Festival also celebrates national production,” stated the Portuguese Association of Cinematographic Companies (APEC), responsible for the event.
Among the Portuguese films currently showing in cinemas are “Cândido – The Spy Who Came from Football” directed by Jorge Paixão da Costa, the compilation “Entre Muros – 3 Curtas Portuguesas” by Basil da Cunha, Inês Teixeira, and Mónica Lima, “Revolução (sem) Sangue” by Rui Pedro Sousa, “A Flor do Buriti” by Renée Nader Messora and João Salaviza, and “Mãe” by João Brás.
In addition, the four films nominated in the Best Film category at the 2024 Sophia Awards, the Portuguese ‘Oscars’, will be rerun on those days: “Great Yarmouth – Provisional Figures” by Marco Martins, “Mal Viver” by João Canijo, “Nação Valente” by Carlos Conceição, and “The Nothingness Club – Não Sou Nada” by Edgar Pera.
The Cinema Festival is also an opportunity to watch international films, with particular emphasis on Dune: Part Two, Back to Black, the Amy Winehouse biopic, and There’s Still Tomorrow, a film that marks the directorial debut of actress Paola Cortellesi and which became the ninth most-watched Italian film ever in its country of origin, surpassing Barbie and Oppenheimer.
The complete list of films is available on the festival’s website.
The return of these films to the big screens takes place within the scope of a partnership between APEC and the Portuguese Cinema Academy.
