Having exited meteorological drought in March, the Portuguese mainland is already creeping back into it: the latest climate bulletin shows around 8% of national territory back in ‘weak meteorological drought’ (when the south has not been released at any point from its condition of hydrological drought). April was, according to IPMA (institute of sea and atmosphere) “very warm” in terms of air temperature, and “very dry” in terms of precipitation. And from here onwards for the next few months at least, the situation, certainly in the south, is likely to get warmer and drier.
