Palestinian prime minister Mohammed Mustafa thanked Portugal today for voting in favour of extending Palestinian rights at the United Nations as well as for its humanitarian support. Minister of foreign affairs, Paulo Rangel, has written on social media site ‘X’: “The Palestinian prime minister spoke this morning with MNE @PauloRangel_pt, to thank Portugal for the favourable vote at the UNGA (United Nations General Assembly), as well as all the support given to Palestine, namely humanitarian aid. He also welcomed the calls for an immediate ceasefire”. On May 10, the UN General Assembly approved, with the overwhelming support of 143 countries, including Portugal, a resolution granting “additional rights and privileges” to Palestine and calling on the Security Council to reconsider favourably its request for full membership of the organisation.
