Faro house dates back to the 1920s
Casa 1923, a century-old house in Faro, has won a National Urban Rehabilitation Prize 2024 in the category of “Under 1,000sqm”.
Ten rehabilitation projects in Faro, Funchal, Lisbon, Ponta Delgado and Porto were awarded during the prize-giving ceremony on Wednesday night at the Casa da Arquitetura in Matosinhos.
According to online property website Vida Imobiliária, which organises the ‘Prémio Nacional de Reabilitação Urbana’ competition, a total of 80 rehabilitation projects were signed up, spanning 23 municipalities across the country, including the Madeira and Azores archipelagos.
Casa 1923 was signed up by PAr Plataforma de ARquitetura, which led the property’s now award-winning revamp which was completed in 2022 and helped the building regain its architectural and historical Art Noveau character.
The house – which is located on Rua Almeida Garrett, no.53, in the heart of the Algarvian capital – is now registered as a holiday rental property (Alojamento Local, or AL).
