Quinta da Sequeira is a highly respected producer in the upper reaches of the Douro Valley. They are known for their high-quality red wines and also for Port, and I have tried in the past their main “rosé”, which is a considerably darker shade of pink than this “rosado”.
With the weather warming up, this is the time of year when we start reaching for a nice, chilled rosé and this is one of notable quality. It still always surprises me how so many people are willing to pay a great deal more money for French rosé from Provence when we have so many great rosés to choose from here.
This one is easily as good as many of the big-name posh pinks from Provence and costs €16.95 at Apolónia, not cheap for a Portuguese rosé by any means, but the quality jumps out of the glass with elegant red fruit aromas and a crisp yet well-rounded dryness in the mouth leading to a lingering finish.
Great to drink as an aperitif or to accompany salads and seafood.
