Papas de milho are a local delicacy
Silves will pay homage next weekend to ‘papas de milho’, a traditional corn porridge also known as ‘xerém’.
A local delicacy in the Algarve, ‘papas de milho’ are most traditionally served with seafood such as shellfish although they can also be served with meat.
The sixth ‘Mostra de Papas de Milho’ will take place between Friday, May 31 and Sunday, June 2 at Praça Al-Mutamid, bringing together over 10 stalls selling freshly made ‘papas de milho’. There will also be a wide range of regional products for sale, from handicraft to sweets and liquers.
Musical entertainment will include performances by Fado singers, DJs and other local performers.
The event will be open at 6pm and close at 2am on May 31 and June 1 and at 11pm on June 2. Admission is free.
