Dapple Productions announces Caryl Hallberg’s new novel, A Brush With Mortality, is available on Amazon and through booksellers worldwide. With the launch of her new novel, Hallberg is offering her first work of literary fiction since moving to Portugal from the USA in 2020.
This novel encompasses psychological mystery, and suspense in a genuinely unique manner with spoiler alerts every step of the journey. Themes related to sexuality, LGBTQ+, HIV/AIDS, hospice, infidelity, and a little kink are explored. The novel is full of memorable characters, who leave a lasting impression on the reader.

Set in the San Francisco Bay Area in the year 2000, the protagonist Letty Mae explores meaning through death, erotic adventure, mystery, and those thoughts and actions we’d rather keep hidden. Letty Mae searches for what it means to be a female over 50 when the new century’s reality does not fit your world view. Luckily, she has a guide in the form of an elite bisexual patriarch who must, in the end, die.
Hallberg lives in Tomar, Portugal. “I have found tremendous inspiration living in Tomar. The amazing cultural heritage and the community here are extremely special.” This is one reason that she partnered with the third-year graphic design student at Escola Profissional de Tomar, Quélia Ferreira, to have them create the book’s cover design.
