Property Blues – a poem by Roberto Cavaleiro

My house is as odd as my head

No windows to see the within from the without

Doorways to mysteries beyond the imagination

Sloping roofs for snow that never comes

Low ceilinged rooms just tall enough to avoid collision

A bathless bathroom; a bedless bedroom.

A widower’s kitchen.

A floorplan which shows not the altercations that led to alterations.

Things displaced: Nightmarish disorder

Unframed pictures and orphaned hooks.

Your voice echoing through empty space

Come home.
