The MPs elected to Madeira’s Parliament in the early regional elections on May 26 will be sworn today (June 6), on the same day that the new executive, led by Social Democrat Miguel Albuquerque, will also be sworn in.
The Madeiran parliament is made up of 47 members and, although PSD will continue to be the party with the most representatives, with 19 seats, for the first time there won’t be a majority led by the Social Democrats in the chamber.
The Socialist Party (PS) will occupy the same 11 seats it had in the previous legislature, Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP – Together for the People) will increase its bench from five to nine MPs and right wing Chega will keep its four, while the Liberals, IL and People-Animals-Nature, PAN have re-elected their sole MPs.
