Barman slaughtered for cash seen in his wallet

It has taken a couple of months, but PJ police have identified and arrested the man they believe was responsible for the stabbing to death of 46-year-old barman in Loures in March. Pedro Seixas was found collapsed in the street having descended from a late bus, on his way home. Motives at the time seemed a mystery. It now transpires his assailant (who travelled on the same bus) saw Seixas had a large amount of money in his wallet (when he paid for his ticket), and killed him for it. The 21-year-old man from São Tomé already has a police record for violent crimes. Described as someone ‘of no fixed abode’, he is also unemployed. Much of the concern about immigrants in Portugal these days centres on the ‘feeling of insecurity’, with many arguing that immigrants have not affected the country’s crime figures. Yet, violent crime has soared over the last 10 years, as outlined in March by the general directorate for justice policy.
