The Portuguese-speaking community in Venezuela has expressed its satisfaction at the announcement by president Marcelo of his ‘dream’ to hold Portugal Day celebrations in Venezuela next year. “It is important for our community and it is a demonstration not only by the (Portuguese) government, but also by the State, of getting closer to the Portuguese community and closely monitoring the situation in Venezuela,” a Portuguese community counsellor told Lusa, recognising however that a visit by president Marcelo “would be conditional in some way on the political and social conditions being in place”.
