The tragedy of bureaucracy in cases of urgent need has been starkly highlighted today in tabloid Correio da Manhã, which has given a lot of space to the callous murder, in broad daylight, of a young woman who simply wanted to ‘get on with her life’ (something her former lover could not accept). The Ministry of Justice in Porto “determined that Daniela Padrino should have been supplied with a panic button on the precise day that she was run over (three times) by her ex-boyfriend”. Says the paper, the ministry ‘acted’ on June 6, following a request, marked urgent, made 12 days before.
