This brand of bison meat will be sold exclusively in Portugal at Apolónia Supermarkets
Apolónia Supermarkets in the Algarve will begin selling Canadian bison meat starting this Friday (June 21).
Described as a “protein-rich and low-fat delicacy,” the particular brand of meat will be sold exclusively in Portugal at Apolónia’s stores in Almancil, Galé and Lagoa.
“We are very excited to bring this new gastronomic experience to our customers and invite everyone to discover the unique taste and benefits of bison meat. We hope our customers will explore this novelty at Apolónia and see that we remain committed to offering distinctive and high-quality products,” says Aléssio Miali, head of the butcher section at Apolónia stores.
The decision to start selling bison meat came in response to the “growing demand for healthy and innovative food products”, the supermarket group says.
Apolónia has partnered with the Canadian Rangeland Bison Company, known for its “ethical and sustainable farming practices,” and which operates under “stringent SGS certifications, ensuring responsible and sustainable farming.”
Beyond being promoted as a healthy choice, bison meat is produced following “sustainable farming practices,” Apolónia says. “Collaborating with over 50 ranches in Canada, Rangeland Bison Company ensures responsible breeding without the use of antibiotics, growth promoters, or animal by-products,” it adds.
Entrecôte and Sirloin varieties will be available at all Apolónia stores in Almancil, Galé, and Lagoa, as well as online with exclusive delivery in the Algarve.
Anyone looking to try bison meat can also turn up for a tasting event on Friday and Saturday (June 21-22) from 11am to 2pm at all three supermarkets.
