Portugal has stopped recording macroeconomic imbalances, after “several years of warnings from the European Commission and having recorded an excessive deficit”. This was the announcement by the European Commission today, attributing the change to the “reduction in vulnerabilities” at budgetary level. “France, Spain and Portugal no longer have imbalances, as vulnerabilities have decreased overall. The risks to fiscal sustainability will be analysed within the framework of the reformed budgetary rules,” the EU executive said in a statement.
