IL wants 20 year audit of public sector golden handshakes

IL (Iniciativa Liberal) has today recommended that the government ask the General Inspectorate of Finance(IGF) to audit compensation paid to top brass by public companies over the last two decades. Speaking to journalists in the context of yet another ‘golden handshake’ polemic, IL MP Carlos Guimarães Pinto said there was “brutally unequal treatment” between the public and private sector, which needs to be clarified. “It is intolerable” that an employee in a public company, when he/ she decides to leave or retire, has “more than a few tens of thousands of euros waiting as an exit bonus“, when counterparts in the private sector very often only “receive a final salary and any holiday payments” that may be due.
