On what is the ‘day of the municipality’, the Azorean island of Corvo is paying tribute to Prince Albert I of Monaco, who between 1885 and 1915 commanded 29 oceanographic campaigns on four ships – 13 of which were carried out in the Azores. José Manuel Silva, mayor of this smallest of Azorean islands told Lusa that the tribute to the prince and his visits to Corvo is scheduled for 7pm local time (8pm in Lisbon) and consists of the unveiling of a tiled plaque in Cancela Square, which will be renamed Largo Alberto I Prince of Monaco (great-great-grandfather of the current prince).
