Secretary-general of the PS, Pedro Nuno Santos, has called the idea of an alliance between his party and right-wing CHEGA, alluded to by prime minister Luís Montenegro yesterday, “absurd and meaningless”. It is likely that the prime minister knew his remarks would rile Mr Nuno Santos who has, in fact, been voting along the same lines as CHEGA since the AD government came into power. The plan, as seen by those ‘on the outside’, is that constant thwarting of government policy will bring it down, and trigger another round of legislative elections (which the prime minister warns is not ‘thinking about the necessities of the Portuguese people…)
