Around €35,800 and several kilos of drugs seized
PSP police have provided an update on yesterday’s major drug bust in the Algarve, with the number of arrests having increased from 10 to 11.
The updated police statement says 10 men and one woman, aged from 17 to 51, were arrested, and six have been named ‘arguidos’ (defendants).
The amount of drugs seized has also increased, totalling over 8.5 kilos of hashish (enough to be divided into 16,755 doses), as well as 509 doses of cocaine, 302 doses of heroine, 64 bottles of nitrous oxide, eight cars, four cartridges and munitions, a bladed weapon, a variety of equipment to weigh and package drugs, and around €35,800 in cash that authorities suspect originated from “illicit activity.”
PSP police also confiscated stolen items that had been used as payment for drugs, including two drones and two scooters, which are “expected to be returned to their legitimate owners.”
The arrests follow an investigation aimed at fighting drug trafficking in the region – “namely in the municipalities of Portimão, Lagoa, Silves and Lagos” – which had been underway for around a year, PSP police said yesterday in a communiqué to the press.
The investigation led to 20 searches carried out on Monday morning in the boroughs of Lagoa and Portimão.
