The new singing programme aims to find the best voices among the municipality’s primary school children.
Under the motto “Educating to Sing,” Albufeira has introduced the “Crianças ao Palco” (Children to Stage) programme. The goal is to encourage musical vocal participation among all primary school children in the municipality’s public school system. This is achieved through classroom auditions to evaluate the students’ vocal and performance abilities, ultimately selecting the most talented voices.
The selected candidates are taking part in a final show open to the public on Friday, June 28, at 21h00 on the Praça dos Pescadores.
On stage, the 12 finalists will perform songs exclusively in Portuguese to contribute to the appreciation and dissemination of the national musical heritage.
The primary goal of the “Children on Stage” programme is to offer children the chance to become “artists for a day” by engaging with professional musicians through music. It also aims to allow them to display their vocal abilities, often unnoticed by the children and their parents.
“The event also aims to provide an unforgettable experience for all participants, thus contributing to improving their artistic, cognitive and social skills. This type of initiative boosts children’s self-esteem and self-confidence, encourages positive attitudes, and offers various proven benefits for their overall development”, says Albufeira mayor José Carlos Rolo, who pointed out that Albufeira is the first municipality in the Algarve where students can enjoy this experience.
