Albuquerque ‘insists on staying’ while Madeiran government falters

Madeira’s minority government has its back against the wall, unable to muster enough votes in favour of its programme to officially ‘take office’. Lesser leaders may have already thrown in the towel, but Miguel Albuquerque is showing the tenacity of a limpet, insisting on remain ‘in charge’ even though CHEGA has stressed it will only vote in favour of the government’s programme if Albuquerque is gone. “Let’s see”, Albuquerque has told reporters today. “We are still in negotiations. We are still in conversations. It all depends on the next few days”… PS Socialists and JPP have already declared they will be voting against the programme.
