MED Festival aims to eliminate cigarette butts completely

To keep its venue free of cigarette butts, the organisation is encouraging the use of eco-friendly ashtrays.

At the MED’24 Festival in Loulé this week, festival-goers will receive pocket-sized eco-ashtrays made from dried common sugarcane and reused cork stoppers.

Light, practical, and handcrafted, this eco-ashtray symbolizes environmental sustainability through local, artisanal, and sustainable production. It is a natural, biodegradable product that aligns with the principles of the circular economy.

Smokers will therefore have a place “at hand” to put their cigarette butts instead of throwing them on the floor.

There will also be upcycling equipment throughout the festival venue for the selective collection and storage of cigarette butts.

This is yet another environmental initiative that the MED Festival organisation is introducing to reduce the environmental impact of this event, which is primarily focused on the Planet.
