This summer, the Duna Beach Sunsets feature top UK and Portuguese acts for four incredible nights of Electronic, Drum and Bass, Hip hop, Dancehall and House music.
Dance music lovers rejoice! Lagos is gearing up to host some of this summer’s hottest sunset dance parties. Between July 3 and August 14, the Duna Beach Club, overlooking Meia Praia and the sea, will host four exclusive events, and the tickets are free!
Starting next Wednesday, July 3, the Duna Beach Sunsets will feature some of the UK’s and Portugal’s top DJs. The first night will feature Mr. Scruff, Aroop Roy, and Zeeman with some incredible House music.
On the second night, July 17, the focus will be on electronic music featuring Ross from Friends, Chubby T, and Ventura.
On July 31, Classic House DJ Derrick Carter, Sheri Vari, and Bumble will energise the crowd around the pool.
To wrap up the season, on August 14, Arthi – who DJs for the Sugar Babes, Katy B, has danced in a Beyoncé music video, and who curiously is also a technology correspondent for Sky News – will be joined by Shaka Lion and Marsha to mash-up Dancehall, Hip hop, and more.
This is the third edition of the Duna Beach Sunsets, created by Toby One. With these exclusive nights, the Lagos-based British DJ aims to “bring quality to this side of the Algarve [Barlavento]” and feature various dance music genres throughout the season. “While we have limited dates, I try to do something that would appeal to everyone,” says the spirited blue-eyed DJ with blonde dreadlocks, who initiated his musical career in some of Lagos’ most iconic bars at the time he founded the Algarve’s first surf school, The Surf Experience. “Music was as important as surfing. It was essential to everything,” he recalls.
Since then, his remarkable career has led him to DJ for The Prodigy, Groove Armada, and Public Enemy at Wembley Stadium, among other top acts who make up the impressive network of contacts he uses to host festivals in the Algarve.
Passionate about music, Toby has been a driving force in Lagos, organising “bigger and better” events and attracting top-quality performers, despite the municipality’s limited support.
The most recent festival he organised featured acts such as The Legendary Tigerman, The Gentleman’s Dub Club, The Cuban Brothers, and JFB, “a free event, of which all proceeds went to a charity for disabled children”, points out the DJ, adding that, at the end of August, he is also organising the musical entertainment for the popular Banho 29 in Praia da Luz.
The Duna Beach Sunsets start at 18h30 and finish at 22h30 and are for music lovers aged 18 and over.
Tickets are free and go live on the event’s website one week before the gig.
Limited VIP tables are also available. These cost €500 per table and include four bottles of champagne, gin, or vodka, mixers, and a selection of sushi, oysters, and pregos.
