The EPP (European Popular Party) will be out in force in Portugal this week. From tomorrow (July 2) until Friday, the so-called ‘study days’ of Europe’s largest political family will be taking place in Cascais. Among the many expected over the various days will be European Commissioner Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, Durão Barroso (former European Commissioner and one-time PSD prime minister of Portugal), Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa (in his role as President of Portugal) and Carlos Moedas, Lisbon’s PSD mayor. Said Manfred Weber, president of the EPP: ““We are looking forward to going to Cascais to debate the strategic outlook for the new legislative term and EPP proposals for the new European Commission’s work programme. The EU must now focus on security, economic growth and limiting illegal migration. That is the clear expectation of the voters.”
