Odiáxere market has reopened following extensive renovations
The municipal council of Lagos and parish council of Odiáxere inaugurated the renovated Odiáxere market on Monday (July 1).
The renovation works, which cost just over €558,000 (co-financed by FEDER as part of the CRESC Algarve 2020 community funding programme), were the last ones to be completed in the Regional Network of Local Markets project, which has been carrying out extensive revamps of markets in the municipality of Lagos.
Many local citizens and entities were invited to take part in the reopening ceremony, including Lagos mayor Hugo Pereira, who stressed just how badly the renovations were need, which is why the works took longer than usual to complete.
The good news is that Odiáxere now has a “completely renovated market, which brings pride to the municipality, the parish and all entities involved,” the mayor said.
While this project was considered vital for Odiáxere, the council says it is hard at work to carry out others of similar importance, such as the construction of roundabouts on the EN125 national road, which crosses the heart of the small town. As anyone who has to drive through the town frequently will know, traffic comes to a standstill every day, especially at rush hours, due to the row of traffic lights that exist to allow pedestrians to cross the busy road safely.
The mayor says “the process continues blocked and awaiting a favourable ruling from Infraestruturas de Portugal (national infrastructure authority)” regarding the projects created by the local council.
