According to a Council of Ministers resolution published today, the Interministerial Commission for Maritime Affairs (CIAM) – reactivation of which the government announced at the beginning of the month – will report to the prime minister, Luís Montenegro.
The document published in Diário da República states that “CIAM will operate under the supervision of the prime minister, who will chair it, and will be replaced in his absences and impediments by the member of the government responsible for the maritime area”.
CIAM was created in March 2007 to deal with strategic coordination on the sea.
Its reactivation is part of the 60 measures included in the Accelerating the Economy programme, which the cabinet approved earlier this month in Oliveira de Azeméis. Part of CIAM’s mission is to monitor developments regarding consideration of the proposal to extend Portugal’s Continental Shelf, which if extended as the country would like, will make an enormous difference to the wealth of possibilities available.
