EU to fund Lisbon-Porto high-speed rail link

The high-speed rail link between Lisbon and Porto is one of 134 projects selected by the European Commission for funding from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), totalling €7 billion. According to an EU press release today, of the 134 projects chosen to receive subsidies from the CEF, five are in Portugal – one of which is national, the rest multinational projects with the participation of a national entity. The rail link project is the construction of the first phase of the new high-speed line between Lisbon and Porto, covering 142 kms of railway works and 51 kms of new single-track connections, enabling a future rail link between Portugal and Spain and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
