Summer is the ideal moment to consider joining the Amigos de Música
The finale of the Amigos de Música season in June featured four prestigious artists from London and Munich playing chamber music from Schubert and Brahms to Piazzolla and Messiaen.
There was a second audition of “Algarvia”, the composition specially written for the Amigos five years ago by young British-Russian composer Alissa Firsova … indeed a grand finale!
During the first six months of 2024, the Amigos de Música organised 10 concerts at the charming auditorium of Monte Os Agostos with a series of exceptional artists, who had come from Slovenia, ex-Russia, Italy, England and Portugal, to play for the pleasure of the “Friends of Music”. All concerts were fully booked and there were waiting lists for each concert.
During the hot summer months of July and August, the Amigos de Música concerts will take a “well-deserved break”.
Summer is the ideal moment to consider joining the Amigos de Música, an international group of music enthusiasts based in the Algarve who follow the monthly musical events.
The non-profit organisation organises 18 concerts a year with musicians of international acclaim.
Join the Amigos
As a member, you pay a lump sum of €250 and you will be invited to attend some or all of the 18 concerts, which also include refreshments before the concert.
The group also welcomes additional sponsoring for its Amigos’ scholarship program supporting needy and promising Portuguese musicians.
For the moment, there is a waiting list for becoming a member, as seating in the auditorium is limited, but the sooner you mention your wish to join, the sooner you will get a chance to become a member!

Upcoming concerts
The new concert season 2024/25 will begin on September 10 and 12, featuring a well-known piano and cello duo from Germany with Holger Groschopp and Adele Bitter.
In October, we expect two other concerts with another piano and violin duo, followed by two recitals by two different solo pianists in November and December.
Amigos de Música
The Association of Amigos de Música, formed in 1991 as a non-profit organisation, is an international group of around 120 members who stage musical activities by internationally renowned musicians. It celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2021.
Thanks to some generous members who contributed to the budget with extra donations, the Amigos started, in 1994, a scholarship program for needy and promising Portuguese musicians.
The concerts take place in Monte Os Agostos, an impressive 18th century country estate located above Santa Bárbara de Nexe and near Bordeira. Don’t miss the Porto Piano Fest!
From August 1-11, 2024, music friends may want to turn to Porto Piano Fest which presents its ninth edition since its creation in 2016. This festival was co-founded by award-winning Portuguese pianist and artistic director Nuno Marques, who was actually the first protégé of the Young Portuguese Music Student Scholarship program launched in 1994 by the Amigos de Música in Faro!
