Snails are a summer favourite in Portugal
Castro Marim’s International Snail Festival will take place between Friday and Sunday (July 19-21), shining the spotlight on one of Portugal’s favourite summer dishes – snails!
The event will be held at Revelim de Santo António (Santo António Ravelin), where stalls manned by members of local clubs and associations will be preparing “the best snail recipes” as well as other beloved traditional dishes.
Living up to its international designation, the festival will also feature dishes from other countries, such as Spain, Morocco and France, organisers say.
“This event, which is free, aims to establish Castro Marim as the destination with the best snails in the Algarve, as well as promote traditional Mediterranean products, cuisine and culture and stimulate local commerce,” they add.
The festival, which begins every day at 7pm, will also feature concerts and street entertainment.
