Portuguese companies also being affected
A major IT outage has caused disruption across the globe due to a ‘blue screen of death’ appearing on Windows PCs, affecting everything from banks and TV and radio broadcasters all the way to airlines.
Planes have been grounded due to the technical fault, with Ryanair and Wizzair among the airlines reporting issues. Sky News in the UK reported being off the air this Friday morning due to the global outage.
Portuguese telecommunications operators are also being affected, with Downdetector, a website used to report issues with websites and social media pages, showing that NOS, MEO and Vodafone are registering problems.
Rádio Renascença has contacted national train company Comboios de Portugal (CP) and airport authority (ANA), both of which have not been affected. Portugal’s national bank Caixa Geral de Depósitos has also dodged any issues, the radio station reports.
The issue appears to be linked to an issue with an update from global cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike and is reportedly affecting Microsoft 10 users.
After confirming the issue late last night, Microsoft 365 posted on X this morning that “multiple services are continuing to see improvements in availability as our mitigation actions progress.”
