PJ police investigate
PJ police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a violent house fire today in the parish of Salreu, Estarreja (Aveiro district) in which a 40-year-old woman was found, “carbonised”.
Firefighters called to the scene early this morning discovered the woman’s body inside the burning building.
Estarreja fire station chief Joaquim Rebelo explained that it was “during the fight against the flames” that firefighters discovered “a charred victim”.
According to Rebelo, the body was that of the house owner (who has so far not been named).
The intensity of the fire was such that it was only fully extinguished three hours after the initial call-out, by which time the house was “almost destroyed”, writes Lusa.
