Average gross monthly earnings per employee (per job) increased by 6.4% to €1,640 in the second quarter in Portugal compared to the same period last year, but in real terms the increase was 3.6%, INE announced today. According to INE, in June average gross regular monthly earnings per employee – which excludes salary components such as holiday and Christmas bonuses – was €1,295, registering a nominal year-on-year increase of 6.6% and a real increase (taking inflation into account) of 3.8%. The average monthly gross basic salary per employee stood at €1,214, with a nominal increase of 6.4% and a real increase of 3.6%. These results cover 4.7 million jobs, corresponding to social security beneficiaries and Caixa Geral de Aposentações (civil service pension scheme) subscribers, 2.4% more than in the same period in 2023.
