Festival shines spotlight on the freshest seafood from Ria Formosa
Olhão’s Seafood Festival (Festival do Marisco) attracted around 39,000 people between August 10 and 14, “showing once again why it is considered the biggest gastronomic event of the south of the country,” the local council announced.

“Once again, the Seafood Festival was a success. It is with great pleasure that, year after year, we welcome those who visit us with open arms,” mayor António Pina said on the festival’s closing night.

For five days, the freshest seafood from the nearby Ria Formosa estuary took centre stage in Olhão.

The festival also brings popular Portuguese artists to the Algarve, with this year’s line-up featuring Calema, Ana Moura, Plutónio, Diogo Piçarra and Maninho.
“Promoting one of the region’s greatest gastronomic assets, the Ria Formosa and the town of Olhão, and boosting the local economy have been the main objectives of the Seafood Festival since its first edition,” the local council says.
