Former Portuguese prime minister António Costa will be taking part in the Socialist Academy, which is taking place in Tomar between August 28 and September 1 – the day of PS leader Pedro Nuno Santos’ “rentrée” speech. The event is billed as one for both training and political reflection aimed at young people – “the highlight” nonetheless, according to Lusa, being “António Costa’s dinner speech on Saturday”. The Socialists are ‘returning’ to parliament following a real summer of ‘health service discontent’, in which criticism of the government has been constant but which, to be fair, has been pretty much an action replay of summer constraints in the public health service under eight years of Socialism.
