Arrebita food fest brings ‘new blood’ to Portimão

Several top chefs, some of whom have never taken part in the event before, will be participating in Arrebita Portimão

Arrebita Portimão is returning for its fifth edition on the first weekend of September (September 7-8), bringing several top chefs to the Algarve town.

This year’s line-up of chefs will feature “new blood” compared to previous edition, with a wide-ranging mix of distinguished and emerging chefs, who will be travelling to Portimão to cook delicious dishes for €7 each. Vincent Farges from Epur (Lisbon), Natalhie Inês from SÁLA (Lisbon) and João Lopes from Bon Bon (Carvoeiro) stand out as the Michelin-starred chefs who will be taking part in the event.

As Arrebita Portimão takes place at the town’s busy Alameda (or Praça da República) square, between 6pm and 11pm, the dishes will be served as street food, making them easy to eat ‘on the go’.

Some of the guest chefs will also be leading ‘showcooking’ events in which they will share recipes, techniques and tricks live on the Cepsa stage, accompanied by DJs. Chefs Rui Sequeira (Alameda, Faro), Lídia Brás (Stramuntana, Vila Nova de Gaia), Hugo Nascimento (Naperon, Odeceixe) and Pedro Teles (Rural 150, Valada do Ribatejo) will lead the ‘showcookings’ on Saturday, followed by Verónica Catarino (Mar&Nada, Lisbon), Márcio Silva (Copo Alto, Lisbon), Flávio Gonçalves (Javali, Bragança), and Filipe Bilro (Larau, Estremoz) on Sunday.

Another highlight of the food fest will be the Producers’ Market, where a vast selection of the Algarve’s best traditional products – such as olive oil, handicraft, firewaters and liqueurs, wines and regional sweets – will be on display near the event’s inviting bar area, which will be brought to life with live music courtesy of Party Brass Band.

“The town of Portimão, already home to a significant cluster of young chefs who have ventured into new concepts and a more creative, signature cuisine, is not only the stage for this local gastronomy festival but also an integral part and driving force behind this increasingly relevant community in the national gastronomic scene. This represents a successful example of the involvement of the local government, resources, and local talent,” says organiser Amuse Bouche in a statement to the press.
